Arthur Ashe
Arthur Ashe made history as the first, and still the only, African American male tennis player to win both the U.S. Open and Wimbledon singles titles. He also became the first African American man to achieve a world No. 1 ranking and to be inducted into the Tennis Hall of Fame. A lifelong advocate for social causes, Ashe dedicated himself to raising awareness about AIDS after contracting the disease through a blood transfusion. He continued his advocacy until his passing on February 6, 1993.
