Lewis Latimer

Lewis Latimer was an African American inventor. He learned how to draft mechanical and electrical plans by watching the draftsmen he worked for. During his time as an inventor he invented carbon filaments for the lightbulb. By doing this he made lighting affordable for every American household. So the next time you turn on a light in your house you can thank Mr. Lewis Latimer. Lewis was also instrumental in the invention of the telephone. He received patents for both of his contributions to the light bulb and telephone. Though he was self taught he was still able to accomplish amazing things for the people of America.
